SAN GIORGIO MORGETO, ITALIA
EXTENDING THE URBAN FABRIC IN VALVERDE, SPAIN
Object of the contest: Rehabilitation of a slopped underground parking in construction in order to better integrate it into the landscape; transforming the terrace on top of the parking into a belvedere public space, capable of sustaining the cultural events and the temporary activities of the community and build a relationship between it and the old town square.
Client: Comune di San Giorgio Morgeto
Location: VIA FLORIMO, SAN GIORGIO MORGETO, ITALIA
The solution offers a minimum intervention into the landscape, not by adding but by remodelling and integrating the existing material. The territorial configuration of the new square has risen from the idea of systemising in steps the parking roof by laying the obtained amphitheatre along the scenery in order to create a direct dialogue with the old square. The existing building fronts become part of the background.
As a new element, the solution introduces a wall witch by turns becomes: urban marker, coordinator of the car and foot pathways, possible holder or setting for the monument, visual closing element of the amphitheatre.
The territorial integration of the arch wall was thought as an extension to the existing level curves. It is 'swallowed' by a shell of artificial land curves made of stone, which in time will allow the vegetation to grow on them.
