structuring a former workers' housing area, which has been recently included in the wider city center area, CROATIA
Object of the contest: redesigning the area and planning it as a mixed use, predominantly housing zone (even social housing)

Chatting houses. Through this project we set out the beginning of a story with many characters which get to know each other because they started to interact. The characters in our tale are the houses themselves and we conceived them like a bunch of friends who want to catch up with each other .
The focus was to shape the exterior spaces by architecture. Thus, the buildings aren't just lined, but they are actively participating into the process of socializing.
We wanted to create a cozy atmosphere as a background for the daily life. We imagined as the heart of the project two pedestrian strips which cross the site. Along them, we set the houses in row, following the site topology and facing the Kvarner bay. Eventually, we slightly turn them to each others, the variation on the main orientation giving a feeling of dialogue between the houses. Meanwhile, inviting zones are being created.
