Object of the contest: the construction of a student housing unit in an area in the historic centre of Athens, along with a general plan with a viral-type development scenario.
Plot: 200sqm plot, gross area = 440 sqm
Budget = 850 - 1200 euro/sqm

We proposed a scheme of units distributed in a merely random way, due to the fact that there are different shaped plots which should house the same functions.
This scattered like approach is easy to adapt on each given plot, no matter the size or shape.
Between the units, the space has no precise function, but it gathers its social character by inviting everybody to explore it and adapt it to their needs.
In our story these non-spaces come to life under the touch of its inhabitants.
THE UNIT: for one or two students, with superimposed beds. Rather small but functional, scattered on 3 floors.
THE COMMON SPACE: in between the units. Residual. No precise function. No center. Various views to the exterior, various heights.
A place that needs to be explored. A place that waits to be furnished and animated. A place that gather value by its residents.
THE GROUNDFLOOR: a place for the city and the street. Public, animated, attractive.
Functions: coffee shops, tea shops, traditional crafts workshops, art gallerys etc. The ground floor is 5m high and it can easily receive a light mezzanine structure.
